Ocean Quest

Removal of Ghost Nets

We tackle plastic, garbage, toxins, and prioritize removing ghost nets from oceans and rivers. Annually, 300,000 whales, dolphins, sharks and a countless amount of seabirds, perish from abandoned fishing nets, discarded due to age or damage to avoid the time-consuming process of on-board recycling. Sponsored boats like Zodiacs help us remove small to medium-sized ghost nets efficiently. Marked with balloons, large ghost nets, weighing several tons, are transported to the coast by a trawler. Using advanced sonar tech and our new hybrid drones and in future also wing gliders, we locate and surface nets for recycling.
